THE SIGN

October 28, AD 312. Constantine marches on the Milvian Bridge. As the historians tell it, he sees a sign and places the Chi-Rho — the first two letters of Χριστός — on the standard his army carries.

In hoc signo vinces. In this sign, conquer.

Within a year, the Edict of Milan ends the empire’s legal war on the Church. That standard — the Labarum — is where Emperiol begins.

THE COST

For almost three centuries, the faith had no legal protection in Rome. Nero’s fires in AD 64. Decius in 250. Diocletian’s Great Persecution from 303. In between: tolerated, suspected, informed on. Never safe. They wore “The Name” anyway.

THE CALL

Emperiol is a coined word, built from emperor — English emperor, from Old French empereor, from Latin imperator: one who commands. We didn’t inherit the word. We made it.

THE MARK

X is not a subtraction. It’s chi — Χ — the first letter of Χριστός. Christ. The Church has been writing it that way since before the Church was legal. Nobody removed Him. He was always in it.

BORN IN THE PURPLE

Byzantine emperors born to a reigning ruler were called porphyrogenitus — born in the purple. Tyrian purple was once so costly it was restricted by law to the imperial house.

We don’t wear black to mourn. We wear gold. The tomb is empty. We are His inheritance. Those who are destined to rule.
